The Washington Lightkeepers Association (WLA) is host for this 5-mile Fun Run/Walk in the beautiful coastal town of Westport. The USATF-certified, scenic course is flat and fast. Race starts and finishes at the historic Westport Maritime Museum overlooking Grays Harbor. Runners and walkers travel the paved State Park Dunes Trail along the Pacific Ocean and past Washington’s tallest lighthouse. The annual event benefits the WLA, a non-profit group dedicated to the rehabilitation, restoration, preservation, and perpetuation of Washington’s lighthouses, lightships and rich maritime history.
In 2008, the 3rd annual “Run for the Light” registered nearly 80 participants. Daryl Montgomery of Bonney Lake clocked a time of 30:29 in winning both the overall race and highly competitive masters age division. Eighteen year old Alyson Piccolo of Stanwood out-paced all women and placed fourth overall in 34:00! Come join us for the 4th edition of the “Run for the Light,” scheduled for Saturday, August 8th 2009.
